In Years 6, 7, 8 and 9 students follow the National Literacy Strategy, which ensures that the criteria for the National Curriculum are met.  All years are taught in setted groups according to ability.

The English Department aims to develop the skills of students so that they become confident communicators in both the written and spoken word. 

We hope to foster a love of literature, an enjoyment in reading and to develop accuracy and style in each student's written work. 

We read a selection of novels, plays, poetry and non-fiction, and students are encouraged to respond both orally and in writing using appropriate methods of communication. 

Use of films, DVDs, tapes and ICT are integrated into the curriculum and students are encouraged to become independent learners as well as co-operative members of a group.
