The Enhanced Resource Provision

The Enhanced Resource Provision (ERP) is based on the Campus of Shepshed High School and Hind Leys, A Specialist Arts College, in Shepshed.  The Enhanced Resource Provision provides an education for students with significant and complex autism, but of mainstream ability, who require highly specialised and individual arrangements which cannot be practicably or reasonably put in place by a mainstream school.

The ERP supports students with Aspergers Sydrome from the age of 10 to 19 from Years 6 to 13.  Transfer between the High School and Hind Leys is expected and once having received a place students will remain part of the Enhanced Provision throughout their secondary school career.

Students are taught curriculum subjects in mainsteam lessons in the school appropriate to their age but additionally are able to access the Oak Centre, a low stimulus area set in a building separate from either school.  Here pupils take part in additional groups and individual work based on their own individual need.  Groups are run to foster social interaction skills, support life skills and develop emotional literacy.  Some students take part in extra sex education lessons and others have 'top up' lessons to help revisit work completed previously.  The base is also available for communication activities, coursework, community work and any other time when students are unable to access the mainsteam school and college.

Programmes and timetables are student centred and designed for individual students so they have significant differences.  Access to classes in school is dependant on the student's ability to complete the subject and so we are able to adapt timetables according to students' needs.  We hope to provide a mainsteam experience with ASD specific support for pupils to reduce anxiety but also to provide firm expectations and clear boundaries for our students.

Students wear the appropriate school uniform and are expected to take part in at least 50% of the main steam curriculum but most students have time in school to complete homework as this is a specific area of difficulty for students with Aspergers Syndrome.

All students are supported throughout their school day by a Teaching Assistant and consistency of staffing helps to allow continuity and security, however, all students work with at least two staff to avoid issues around dependence.
