Mathematics

Our aims for students in the Mathematics Department are:-

  • to produce students who are numerate and confident in their everyday use of mathematics and in their use of the subject in other curriculum areas

  • to enable students to fulfil their full potential in all areas of their study of Mathematics, making connections between different areas of Mathematics and maximising their understanding

  • to be able to work independently or collaboratively with others as appropriate

  • to enable students to use ICT appropriately in Mathematics

  • to increase students' enjoyment of Mathematics

In order to achieve this, we employ a variety of resources and teaching approaches.

In Year 6 students are grouped by ability, using information provided by Year 5 teachers.

In Years 7, 8 and 9 students are set by ability using formal assessment and teachers knowledge of students' abilities and attitudes.

In all years groupings are reviewed regularly and there is flexibility to move students between sets if necessary.
