SCHOOL DRESS CODE

Governors expect students to conform to the Dress Code in all four years.

The School Dress Code is designed to help parents ensure that children are dressed sensibly, cheaply and safely.  In order to safeguard your children's property, please ensure that all items are clearly labelled with their name.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

Under the Dress Code:

Students are expected to wear:-

  1. Black or grey sweatshirts, with or without the SHS logo.
  2. Plain white shirts or blouses, long or short sleeves.
  3. Plain white polo shirts, with or without the SHS logo
  4. Black or grey tailored trousers or skirts.  Skirts should be knee length or longer.
  5. Low-heeled shoes (black only).  Trainers are only to be worn for PE or for lunch time sporting activities.
  6. Plain black fleece, jumper or cardigan, with or without the SHS logo.

We do not allow students to wear:-

  1. Denim jeans, skirts or jackets, or any type of hooded top.
  2. Track suits, T-shirts or trainers, except as part of PE kit.
  3. Earrings - with the exception of stud earrings.
  4. Any body piercing studs (eg nose, tongue, lip, eyebrow, etc)
  5. Jewellery (rings/necklaces).
  6. Make-up (including nail varnish) - unless discreet.

We urge parents to ensure that all items of clothing are clearly marked with the student's name.

PE KIT

We are striving to achieve a more uniform PE Kit and would request that parents please provide the following kit for students in all years:

Outdoor work:

Burgundy rugby top; plain black shorts; burgundy football socks.  Football boots for working on the field when the weather is inclement, and for being taught football, rugby, tag-rugby, hockey and cross country.  Trainers for work on the hard surface area and summer games.  Tracksuit or similar.  (An outdoor coat worn around school is not permissible.)  Shin pads are strongly recommended, as are gum shields for sports such as hockey, rugby and tag-rugby.

Indoor work (including above) and outdoor warm weather work:

Burgundy polo shirt or burgundy T-shirt; plain black shorts; white ankle socks; trainers or plimsolls.  For Dance lessons, either bare feet, plimsolls or dance/jazz shoes are the only options.  Large hat, sunglasses and sun tan lotion for hot days.

Swimming:

Girls may only wear a one-piece swimming costume and boys should wear trunks (which must not be longer than their knee level).  A towel and plastic bag for wet kit are required.

SANCTIONS

We understand that parents will find it difficult to enforce the School Dress Code if the school does not pick up on infringements.  Equally, the school relies on parental support in implementing the Code.
