Science

Key Stage 2

In Year 6 all students are taught in mixed ability groups and follow a course based on the QCA Exemplar Scheme of Work for Key Stage 2, supplemented with resources from "Star Science".

By doing this we hope to:

• promote progression for students from our feeder Primary Schools;
• provide continuity for students throughout their time in Year 6;
• ensure a secure base for students to develop their scientific understanding at Key Stage 3.

Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3 all students follow a course based on the National Curriculum, supplemented with resources from "Thinking through Science".

By doing this we hope to:

• promote progression for students from Key Stage 2 and onto Key Stage 4;
• provide continuity and progression for students throughout their time at Shepshed High School;
• ensure a secure base for students to develop their scientific understanding at Key Stage 4.

In Year 7, students are taught in mixed ability groups.  In Years 8 and 9 students are broadly banded in ability groups.

In Years 6 to 7 students are encouraged to develop their investigation and thinking skills in "Thinking Science" lessons.
